A very nice German Wheellockpistol, dated 1587, length 55 cm, in mint condition, Provenance The Visser Collection, sold at Sotheby's London 3 july 1990 (lot 192)
This pistol belongs to a distinctive group of Wheellockpistols generely attributed to the hand of the stockmaker Klaus Hirt of Wasungen (Thuringen). Typical are the many several anymals used by the very high quality inlay-works. One pistol with this typical stock is in the Historischen Museum in Berne.
Two pistols of the same stocks are sold at Sotheby's London 23 march 1970 (lot 65 and 66) and one is sold at Sotheby's London 5 december 2002 (lot 241)
